“It’s like you’re being strangled”

Absent from the media sphere for several years, following the stiff person’s illness that she contracted, Céline Dion confided in an interview to NBC News the ordeal she put her through.

Suffering since December 2022 from the incurable disease stiff person syndrome, which disrupts the central nervous system, the Canadian star gave an interview to the American news channel NBC News which will be broadcast on June 25 on Prime Video.

She talks about her daily fight against this illness which causes her pain.as if you were being strangled“.

The manifestation of stiff person disease consists of trunk rigidity which may be accompanied by spasms. Aged 56, the singer breaks the silence for the first time since 2022. In the NBC documentary, Celine Dion confides: “It’s okay, but it’s a lot of work. It’s one day at a time. I didn’t fight the disease, it is still in me and forever. We will find, I hope, a miracle, a way to cure it with scientific research, but I must learn to live with it.vs”.

This daily life is crossed by pain “like someone is strangling you, like someone is pushing your larynx/pharynx like that“, she explains, miming the gesture. The spasms lead to “the feeling that if I point my feet, they will get stuck, or if I cook – because I like cooking – my fingers, my hands will tense up“, she says.

All of the Canadian star’s concerts scheduled for 2023 were canceled, but she wanted to reassure her fans by mentioning “the excellent team of doctors who are treating me so that I get better. And it is my children who give me the courage and hope to continue”, she added
