He will soon play He-Man in the live-action Masters of UniverseEdit (Masters of the Universe, Mattel). Hollywood is undoubtedly under the spell of British actor Nicholas Galitzine, who will turn thirty in a few months.
The successes and proposals follow one another a decade after his first film, The Beat Beneath My Feet (2014), in which he played the role of a shy teenager, who promised to keep the secret of a fallen rock star played by Luke Perry (star actor of the series Beverly Hills now defunct), in exchange for guitar lessons.
Since then, and especially in recent months, he has starred alongside two Oscar-winning actresses. The latest is the American Julianne Moore whose son, George, in the historical series Mary & George (broadcast on Canal Plus in France). In L17th century England, Mary Villiers (Julianne Moore) pushes her beautiful child into the arms and bed of King James I in order to rise socially.
Mary & George unabashedly explores the crossroads between sex and politics. The result is sulphurous and allows Nicholas Galitzine to try his hand, brilliantly, at period films and costumes. Even so, it is often naked in the numerous sex scenes in fiction inspired by real events.
Scenes that he says he can put up with because they say a lot about his character. “In a way, I love those scenes because you really learn who George is in those moments, how he dominates and manipulates people,” he confided during one of the magazine’s traditional round tables The Hollywood Reporterorganized as the list of contenders for the next Emmys (Oscars of American television) becomes clearer.
The role of this ambitious young man, ready to do anything to interact with power, could earn Nicholas Galitzine his first Emmy nomination, experts predict.
If we have the impression that Galitzine is everywhere in recent months, it is in particular because of the resounding success of his last two romantic comedies produced and distributed by Amazon: The idea of being with you, available since May in France, And My dear f***ing prince, sreleased in August 2023, an adaptation of the successful book by the American author Casey McQuiston.
The idea of being with you is the story of Solène, played by Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway, a 40-year-old single mother, who becomes involved in a romantic relationship with a 24-year-old young man, Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), a member of the very famous boy band August Moon.
“Nick got the role as soon as he arrived. He had what we were looking for (…) He had to be able to sing, act, dance. He had to be charming. We are lucky that Nick Galittzine was there”summarized Anne Hathaway in Vanity Fair by evoking his playing partner in this romance where the age difference and the adulation, which the young star is the subject of, will complicate things.
Nicholas Galitzine is used to complex melodies. In My dear f***ing prince, he is none other than an English prince, who after having hated him, will gradually fall under the spell of the son of the American president, Alex Claremont-Diaz, played by Taylor Zakhar Perez.
The alchemy between the two actors won over spectators to the point that the production is working on a sequel to the romantic comedy. Nicholas Galitizine, who has done a lot since the start of his career, recently confided that he still felt “very fulfilled in this romantic space”.
