“I heard a call to renew D-Day, the Landings. I heard something like a call to bring Europe into a third world war and it is extremely serious,” reacted Friday June 7 at the microphone from franceinfo, Fabien Roussel, deputy and national secretary of the French Communist Party after Volodymyr Zelensky’s speech at the National Assembly.

“In a week, our D-Day will take place”declared the Ukrainian president before the deputies, referring to the Peace Summit for Ukraine, organized in Switzerland in mid-June. “Hitler crossed line after line, Putin does the same,” Volodymyr Zelensky also said.

“If we must do everything to ensure that Putin respects international law and does not win this war, we must do everything to find a political solution and that this conflict does not drag on over time. However, what I have heard today, the announcements of the President of the Republic [Emmanuel Macron] yesterday worries us greatly”, continued on franceinfo Fabien Roussel. Because “it’s military escalation, war escalation.”

“Support Ukraine, support the Ukrainian resistance as we have done from the beginning, yes! A thousand times yes!” On the other hand, “to ensure that Europe enters a third war when we have just celebrated the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings, by saying ‘never again’, it is serious, extremely serious”, concluded the PCF boss.
