(Jenin) The Palestinian Authority Health Ministry announced Thursday the death of three people, killed during an Israeli army raid in Jenin, in the north of the occupied West Bank.
Three people were killed “by occupation bullets in Jenin,” the Health Ministry said in a statement.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said 13 people were also injured.
For its part, the Israeli army spoke of a “counterterrorism” operation around Jenin, during which its soldiers “eliminated” fighters and arrested “a wanted individual, suspected of terrorist activities”.
In a statement, the al-Quds brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, reported “violent clashes” near the Jenin refugee camp.
An AFP correspondent said he saw ongoing fighting in the town outside the camp.
Jenin is a stronghold of Palestinian armed factions in the northern West Bank, where the Israeli army regularly carries out raids.
The West Bank, occupied by Israel since 1967, has experienced an upsurge in violence since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7 in Gaza.
At least 530 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank by Israeli soldiers or settlers since the start of this war, according to Palestinian officials.
Attacks by Palestinians killed at least 14 Israelis in the West Bank during the same period, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures.
The war in Gaza was triggered by the unprecedented Hamas attack on October 7 in Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,194 people, the majority civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures.
Of the 251 people taken as hostages on October 7, 120 are still detained in Gaza, of whom 41 are dead according to the Israeli army.
In response, the Israeli army launched a deadly offensive in the Gaza Strip that has so far left 36,654 dead, mostly civilians, according to data from the Health Ministry of the Hamas-led Gaza government.
