The Sde Teiman detention center in Israel is suspected of mistreatment of Palestinian prisoners. The detainees would be handcuffed and unable to move.

A photo of a blindfolded prisoner with hands on his head and of detainees behind the gates shocked people. They appeared in the Israeli press and reveal the existence of the Sde Teiman detention center, named after a military base in the south of the country. Prisoners from Gaza, suspected of terrorism by the Israelis, are held in this center, but the International Red Cross has never entered it.

An Israeli doctor, who visited injured prisoners, described patients handcuffed to their beds, dressed only in diapers. A soldier mobilized on the base tells American journalists that the 600 to 800 detainees are not authorized to move. Palestinians released from Sde Teiman bear handcuff marks. “I was tied up, I was blindfolded”, testifies a man. Mistreatment was denounced at the beginning of April 2024 by a doctor from Sde Teiman. Two prisoners died while soldiers were taking them to the base. The Israeli army’s military prosecutor is investigating.
