the Green Canyon, a place of preserved beauty

In the rainforest of Java, Indonesia, lies the Green Canyon, a place of unspoilt natural beauty. Tourists are under the spell of this place. The Green Canyon owes its name to its emerald waters and its walls covered with moss and tropical plants. At the entrance to the canyon, a natural arch would have been formed by stalagmites which would have eventually joined together. To continue the visit, tourists must abandon the boat and jump into the water.

Some don’t hesitate to explore. The Green Canyon is famous among thrill-seekers. Members of an Indonesian family discover the place during a canyoning session. For four hours, they are carried by the current or carried away by the rapids. Open to tourists for thirty years, the canyon regains its calm during the night. Fishermen then reclaimed the place. One of them fishes the ancestral way: with a headlamp and a net.
