Prime Minister Gabriel Attal was the guest of “8:30 am franceinfo”, Monday June 3, 2024. Final straight before the European elections of June 9, holding of the vote in New Caledonia, downgrading of France’s rating by the agency S&P… He answered questions from Salhia Brakhlia and Jérôme Chapuis.

The National Rally list has “an absolute hatred of Europe”

“Never has the risk of an extreme right being able to block the European Parliament and block the European institutions been so high”affirms Gabriel Attal. “The challenges have never been greater”for these European elections, according to the Prime Minister: “the use of war in Europe, climate change, artificial intelligence which will revolutionize our lives, American and Chinese competition”he lists. “We will not be stronger by being more alone”assures Gabriel Attal, targeting in particular the RN list.

The Prime Minister affirms that the presidential majority is the only list to defend the European Union, believing that “most lists, and in particular the National Rally, have an absolute detestation of Europe”. “They hate Europe, they consider that for this election, we should not talk about Europe, but we should only talk about national issues and say that there are national consequences”he castigates.

New Caledonia: the executive is “hard at work” to allow the vote

“The Ministry of the Interior is hard at work” to allow the European elections to be held in New Caledonia, assures Gabriel Attal. The head of government concedes that“we are far from a return to normal for residents because there has been a lot of looting, arson of public buildings, businesses”.

Gabriel Attal promises to “trigger a certain number of measures, in particular a solidarity fund” and recalls that Emmanuel Macron was there “engaged” when he visited New Caledonia ten days ago. A “damage assessment mission” must “to make proposals” in government. Gabriel Attal repeats: “We will be there”.

Unemployment insurance: “I assume responsibility for this reform”

“I assume responsibility for carrying out this reform” of unemployment insurance, supports Gabriel Attal for “encourage more activity”despite opposition from unions and certain political parties.

On Friday, S&P lowered France’s rating from AA to AA-. “It reminds us that it is important to be serious about public finances and to continue to act to reduce our deficits”, explains Gabriel Attal. Which can be done, according to him, by increasing the number of people working in France.

“If we had the same employment rate as the Germans, we would have much fewer problems balancing our accounts, because the more people you have working, the more economic activity, contributions that are paid , of the tax that is paid”says the Prime Minister.
