In Paris, thousands of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered on the afternoon of Saturday June 1. With supporters of the New Caledonian separatists, they joined the procession in tribute to the ultra-left activist Clément Méric, killed 11 years ago by skinheads.

Despite the rain, thousands of demonstrators gathered in Paris to demonstrate against fascism, Saturday June 1st. “It’s been 11 years since Clément Méric was assassinated in the middle of a Paris street by far-right activists”recontextualizes Murielle Gilbert, co-delegate of the Solidaires trade union.

The news has caught up with the mobilization. At the call of the Urgence Palestine collective, many of them carried the voice of the Palestinian people. “We are all children of Gaza!”, chanted the demonstrators. The Kanak flag was also flown during the demonstration. “Today, it is extremely important to be together against all imperialisms (…) and it is one and the same fight”, explains Christine, a demonstrator. This unique procession arrived in the calm Place Gambetta in Paris late in the afternooni, before clashes broke out between demonstrators and police. Some businesses were ransacked.
