A figure close to what the French authorities predicted in March 2022 when the war in Ukraine broke out. “These people are in a changing situation with some returning to Ukraine and others continuing to arrive even if they are much less than before.”

Asked about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski’s call to evacuate Donbass, which has 200,000 Ukrainians, the director of Ofii believes “possible” that this is causing a new influx of Ukrainians to France. However, according to him, “of the more than seven million people who have left Ukraine, just over four million have returned to Ukraine”.

In all cases, “there is a welcome that is organized by local authorities, by the State”and “about 20,000 people” are hosted by private individuals in France.
