(OTTAWA) Astronaut and physician David Saint-Jacques is one of 99 people named Thursday to the Order of Canada.
Other personalities from academia, science, medicine, sports, law and the arts include hockey star Sidney Crosby, currently captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League (NHL) and the esteemed Quebec actor Michel Côté, who is currently battling the disease.
The list also includes several other Quebec personalities, including author, composer and performer Jim Corcoran, designer and director Stéphane Laporte, artist and activist Lise Françoise Aubut, journalists Michèle Ouimet and Raymond Saint-Pierre, Aboriginal surgeon Stanley Vollant, researcher and educator Yves Lenoir, Marie-Dominique Beaulieu, professor and researcher in family medicine, scientists André H. Caron and John JM Bergeron, Gaspé cultural promoter Alan Côté, as well as Carolyn R. Freeman and Patricia Garel for their contributions to pediatric medicine.

Tennis teacher Louis André Borfiga, a native of Monaco and a Canadian citizen, is also honoured. He played a major role in the development of tennis in Canada until his retirement last year.
Two nominated Canadians are promoted to become Companions of the Order, the highest status on the Honor Roll: actor Eugene Levy and Nova Scotian businessman John Bragg.
A new officer of the order is Harry LaForme, who became Canada’s first Indigenous appeal court judge in 2004.
The Governor General will present recipients with their insignia of the Order of Canada during an investiture ceremony, the details of which are yet to be announced.
