96 people were arrested in France, Gérald Darmanin welcomes “a significant drop in damage” compared to 2022

Two weeks after the riots which shook many French cities, the Minister of the Interior greeted on Saturday July 15 “a significant drop in damage compared to 2022” during the July 14 festivities, on the night of Friday to Saturday. “We owe it to our police forces, to their presence and to the numerous preventive checks carried out. Thanks to them”Gérald Darmanin wrote on Twitter.

In detail, 96 people were arrested, according to a provisional report at 5:30 am communicated by the Ministry of the Interior. A total of 255 vehicles were set on fire in France, compared to 423 last year, “a decrease of 40%”, welcomes Place Beauvau. In addition, seven police officers, gendarmes and firefighters were injured overnight from Friday to Saturday, compared to 21 in 2022. The number of fireworks used is also down, from 333 to 51 between 2022 and 2023 .
