This is an experiment that the government wants to implement this year in around a hundred schools. “As we speak, there are 87 establishments (…) who have given their agreement” to test the wearing of the uniform, declared Sunday February 18 the Minister of National Education, Nicole Belloubet, on BFMTV.

Since its announcement in the fall, the measure has been slow to be implemented. Some establishments, initially voluntary, have announced that they are backtracking. The deadline given to local authorities to come forward, initially set for February 15, has been pushed back to June. Experimental projects must first be debated within school councils or boards of directors of middle and high schools, or even during broader consultations.

“This experiment must take place”, insists the minister. “It has an interest because basically it is the idea, not of abolishing differences, but rather of creating unity, of creating a feeling of belonging, of trying to work on this notion of equality”, judge Nicole Belloubet. To establish an analysis “objective” experimentation, recruitment of“independent evaluators” are in class.
