A total of 605 sanctions, including 85 definitive exclusions from the establishment, were pronounced during disciplinary councils after the incidents which punctuated the tributes, in October, to professors Dominique Bernard killed in Arras and to Samuel Paty, murdered in October 2020, announced Thursday, November 23, the Ministry of National Education.

Among the 605 sanctions, 322 are temporary exclusions from the establishment and 47 are definitive suspended exclusions, added the ministry in a communication that France Télévisions was able to consult, detailing only the exclusions.

“Respect for authority at school”

For the most serious acts of protest or disruption, measures of removal from the establishment as a precautionary measure were decided on October 16, the date of the tribute. The disciplinary councils which followed decided on sanctions ranging from a warning or a reprimand (eight students) to permanent exclusion from the establishment.

“These sanctions are, first of all, a commitment kept. The one that I made before the French not to let anything pass, in the name of the memory of Dominique Bernard and Samuel Paty, and of the essential respect for ‘authority at school’, declared Gabriel Attal, quoted in the press release. “Moreover, these unprecedented results in the past are proof that we are indeed turning the page on ‘No wave’he added.

The Minister of Education had already reported, on October 19,‘”a little over 500″ incidents notified by school heads during the minute of silence observed in middle and high schools during the tribute to Dominique Bernard, killed in a jihadist attack in Arras (Pas-de-Calais) on October 13, and Samuel Paty, murdered on October 16, 2020 in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines) by a radicalized young person.

“Systematically, we refer the matter to the public prosecutor” and “we initiate disciplinary procedures“, he said. “In the most serious cases, I asked school heads that these students be excluded as a precautionary measure, without waiting for the disciplinary council.”
