In the North, a giant cousinade brought together 825 members of the same family. The tradition of this great gathering dates back to 1898. Report.
We had to rent one of the biggest high schools in the region to bring them together and take the height for the family photo. Among these 825 cousins, we find generations of difference, as between Madeleine, 97 years old, and the last born. The challenge of these cousinades is to meet and respect the will of Charles-Louis Deffontaines and Louise Maës, two farmers from the North attached to the family. A real challenge for their descendants.
4,350 descendants
The genealogical rosette brings together, today, 4,350 descendants, including 3,939 still alive. “It’s values we have. I’ve always heard: ‘Get together. Try to do yourself a favor'”, says Ludovic Deffontaines, one of the descendants of Charles-Louis. Today, the descendants live all over the world, part of which meets in the North every four years, on the occasion of a souvenir photo.
