“8:12pm”, Vincent Khouni | The duty

Vincent Khouni is the leader of the group Double Date With Death and here he presents his first solo album, with an enigmatic title: 8:12 p.m.. Is this a meeting? From a superstition? Still, a gentle wind blows on the songs of this mysterious record… because, indeed, as intriguing as it is, 8:12 p.m. is an absolute comfort. It must be said that this singular, almost surreal atmosphere is propelled by a pedal steel, a sitar harp and a mellotron which wonderfully coat the guitar-voice of the Montreal singer-songwriter. The latter also surrounded himself well to perfect the dreaminess of this ensemble, since he notably collaborated with Emmanuel Alias (Alias), Guillaume Chiasson (Bon Enfant) and Patrick Gosselin (Le Couleur). So, would any particular piece stand out from the rest? After several very attentive listens, we can say that each melody, each lyric is on the same level as the previous one. A little crush all the same for Here Now.
