An 80-year-old Palestinian was found dead Wednesday morning, January 12, in a village in the northern occupied West Bank. Palestinian officials claimed he was detained and left handcuffed by Israeli soldiers. A unit made up of thirty to forty IDF soldiers ambushed at 2 a.m. in the middle of Jiljiliya, according to the village chief. “They stopped the cars in the middle of the village and arrested the passengers who were inside and handcuffed them.”, he clarified.
Omar Abdalmajeed As’ad, who was returning home after visiting relatives, was arrested, handcuffed, beaten, abandoned in a building under construction, and found dead after the soldiers left, the village chief said. The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed this account, specifying that the octogenarian had died of “heart attack” before arriving at the hospital.
