The basins partly supplying the region are only at 40% of their capacity. Because there is not enough water in the pipes, Mexico City services intervene on the leaks as quickly as possible.
The situation could get worse
It is difficult to manage water in this urban area built on an ancient lake and densely populated. In a suburb of the Mexican capital, architects have designed a 20-hectare park almost entirely covered in volcanic stones, which work like a sponge. Currently, 80% of Mexican territory is in a state of drought, and the situation could get worse, with rains only expected in four months.
