80% of kyiv residents deprived of water after Russian strikes, mayor says

A “massive attack” attack took place on the morning of Monday, October 31 against energy installations in several regions of Ukraine, depriving a large part of the capital kyiv of water and leaving “hundreds of localities” without electricity, said the Prime Minister, Denys Chmygal. In Kyiv, “80% of consumers in the capital remain without a water supply” and “350,000 homes were left without electricity”, said the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko.

The Russian armed forces claimed to have carried out “strikes with high-precision and long-range weapons (…) against the military command and energy systems of Ukraine”. “Russian terrorists have once again massively attacked Ukraine. Their targets are not military installations, but critical civilian infrastructure”launched Denys Chmygal. “Missiles and drones hit ten regions, damaging 18 facilities, most of them related [au système] energy”he added.

Strikes targeted several regions of Ukraine on Monday, according to an adviser to the Ukrainian presidency, Kyrylo Tymoshenko. “Some of the missiles were shot down by anti-aircraft defense, while others hit their target”, he added. The Ukrainian army mentioned “more than 50 cruise missiles” launched on Ukraine. In kyiv, at least five explosions were heard between 8 a.m. and 8:20 a.m. (6 a.m. and 6:20 a.m. French time) by AFP journalists.

These new massive strikes come after the announcement this weekend by Moscow of the suspension of its participation in the agreement on Ukrainian grain exports, vital for the world food supply. Two cargo ships loaded with grain, however, left Ukrainian ports on Monday and took the humanitarian maritime corridor bound for Turkey, according to the specialized site Marine traffic.
