The Omicron variant has just overtaken the Delta in Quebec. It would even represent 80% of new infections, according to the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ), which relies on screening results from a few “sentinel laboratories”.
The progression is spectacular. The Laboratoire de santé publique du Québec (LSPQ) conducted an investigation into all infections detected on December 14, as requested by the national director of public health, Dr.r Horacio Arruda.
Of the 1,947 cases reported that day, 28% were generated by Omicron, reveals the INSPQ. The next day, this percentage climbs to 63%, according to partial data from the “sentinel laboratories” which screened a portion of the cases detected in their facility.
Another leap two days later: 71% of infections are then linked to Omicron. This percentage then slightly exceeds 80%, then reached 79% on December 19.
