80 million euros to restructure the Laval hospital and 12 million aid for that of Mayenne

The Ministry of the Interior made a point this Wednesday afternoon to the press on the report submitted by the mediator Daniel Moinard, appointed on October 23 by Prime Minister Jean Castex, on the supply of care in Mayenne and in particular on cooperation between the hospitals of Laval and Mayenne. He had to establish a diagnosis and make proposals concerning the development of the shared medical project as well as the investments to be made.

80 million released for the Laval hospital and 12 million aid for that of Mayenne

First point of the report according to Matignon, 80 million are unlocked for a restructuring of the site of the Center hospitalier de Laval, an XXL renovation : emergencies, resuscitation, surgical block, long-term care unit. On another side, 12 million help are also released for the Center Hospitalier du Nord-Mayenne, which will allow the transfer of the last activities of the former hospital to the current site. An amount sanctuary according to the Prime Minister’s office, regardless of the result of the presidential election next April, for a project which amounts to a total of around 107 million euros. No service will be sacrificed assures the government.

“These announcements, which have yet to be formalized by the Prime Minister, were eagerly awaited by Laval residents and Mayenne residents more broadly”, reacts Florian Bercault, the mayor of Laval, interviewed by France Bleu Mayenne, “because when Jean Castex came to Laval last October, he had strong words, to want to put the package for our Mayenne hospitals”. Are the figures put forward up to par, in his opinion? “This is a major step for Laval”, he begins, “it would be a doubling of the investment envelope of Ségur for the CH de Laval, a significant envelope for the Center hospitalier du Nord-Mayenne, which shows all the same the will of the State to maintain a care offer balanced throughout the territory of the department, this stage must absolutely be irreversible”.

The second point of the report is the development of a common medical project, a better distribution of tasks between the two hospitals for gynecology, surgery, cardiology, critical care in particular (which is already done for biology). The report recommends maintaining activities at the Nord-Mayenne hospital but considers that the human resources of the two structures must be pooled.

This is a major step for Laval, Florian Bercault mayor of Laval

Deputy UDI Yannick Favennec, who had challenged the Prime Minister to the National Assembly on Tuesday on the urgency of the situation in these two hospitals in Mayenne “takes note of the first announcements”, he said in a press release published on Wednesday evening. However, he denounces the form: “by deliberately choosing to inform the press of its decisions before all the elected officials and local actors concerned, the government is part of a deliberate desire to engage in political communication in the context of an electoral campaign”, writes the deputy. Then, on the merits, he considers that it is “a first step which is a step in the right direction and which is likely to reassure all Mayenne residents about the sustainability of our hospitals, in particular that of Mayenne”, recalling that it is also “the result of the exemplary mobilization of residents, healthcare staff, all elected officials and professional organizations”. But for him, it’s still not enough because “these measures do not, however, meet all of our expectations and imply that we remain very vigilant and mobilized”.

Six months to formulate proposals

Laval and Mayenne health professionals, with the support of the Angers University Hospital, have six months to formulate concrete operational proposals. There is unfortunately a point that the report forgot, the big black point is the medical attractiveness of the department, a vast desert.
