A woman who happened to be walking her dog in front of Marcel Cauchon’s residence in Château-Richer on the evening of November 28, 2022 witnessed the disturbing scene. She told the police that she had observed commotion through the window of the residence, before seeing as she approached that it was Elveyn Cauchon who was assaulting her father.
“He beat him hard with punches and kicks in the face,” the woman confided to the authorities.
The witness knocked on the window, attracting the attacker’s attention, but he started hitting her father again when the woman went to get help. It was ultimately this same lady who returned to the scene shouting that she had called the police, who made the suspect flee.
By forcing the door, the woman discovered Marcel Cauchon seriously injured. The man was, however, able to tell him that it was his son who had attacked him and he was also able to be met by the police before he died. He died on December 2, four days after the attack.
Manslaughter
Initially accused of aggravated assault before the death of his father, Elveyn Cauchon admitted his guilt on Friday to one count of manslaughter. It was this accusation that was brought because he did not intend to cause the death of Marcel Cauchon that evening.
Moreover, the autopsy showed that if the injuries from the attack had indeed contributed to the death of the 75-year-old man, they were not the only cause.

“These injuries alone are not severe enough to cause death. They were, however, suffered by an elderly man, with a precarious cardiovascular condition, and were complicated by various conditions, including a myocardial infarction and pneumonia,” writes the forensic doctor in his report, concluding that death was caused by polytrauma. blunt force and its complications.
Crown prosecutor Me Jean-Simon Larouche and the defense lawyer, Mr.e François Cauchon, presented to the judge a common suggestion of 8 and a half years in penitentiary.
Judge Frank D’Amours endorsed the proposal, recalling that there was an almost abysmal disproportion between the attacker “in the prime of life” and the septuagenarian, making Marcel Cauchon very vulnerable to his son’s outbursts of anger. . The latter already had eight criminal records of a violent nature on his record.
Regrets
Before returning to detention, where he remains to serve a little less than seven years with the calculation of pre-trial detention, Elveyn Cauchon wanted to explain his actions to the court.
The 44-year-old has repeatedly insisted that he loved his father and that he made the choice to leave “the good life he had in Alberta” a few years ago to come back and live with him.

The accused claimed to have been provoked that evening by his father, who according to his version hit him first. Frustrated and demanding an “IOU” for money owed to him by his father, he said, he lost control. Marcel Cauchon had told investigators before his death that his son complained of lacking money.
“I regret from the bottom of my heart. I should have just gone to my room. I would like to go back and just continue living the way we did. I was happy,” said the man, in tears.
“The most important sentence, you spoke about it yourself, will be to live with this situation for the rest of your life,” Judge D’Amours reminded him when sentencing him.
