8-0 against Kazakhstan and Jamaica, 7-1 against Ukraine… Before Gibraltar, the biggest cards of the Deschamps era

The Blues broke the record for their biggest victory by scoring 14 goals against Gibraltar on Saturday evening in Nice.

A victory and a score that will go down in history. Against Gibraltar, the Blues won the biggest victory in their history on Saturday, November 18, with no fewer than fourteen goals scored, which exceeds the 10 scored against Azerbaijan in 1995. But before that, since the arrival of Didier Deschamps on the bench in the summer of 2012, they have scored several major victories, coming more or less close to the record.

France-Kazakhstan: 8-0, November 13, 2021

Before the orgy of goals against Gibraltar on Saturday evening, the biggest victory for Didier Deschamps’ Blues had been won by eight goals, on two occasions. The latest dates back to November 13, 2021, against Kazakhstan, during the penultimate qualifying match for the 2022 World Cup. In an exceptionally contested match at the Parc des Princes, for reasons of work and security around the Stadium from France, and in one direction, the Blues had shone.

Not yet captain but already headliner of his selection, Kylian Mbappé had already particularly distinguished himself by scoring his only quadruple in the tricolor jersey. Adrien Rabiot, Antoine Griezmann and Karim Benzema were also among the scorers. At the end of this demonstration, the Blues had officially won their ticket for the Qatari World Cup.

France-Jamaica: 8-0, June 8, 2014

The other 8-0 under the orders of Didier Deschamps took place at the start of his mandate, on June 8, 2014, while the former player was preparing to experience his first international competition with the Blues. For its last preparation match for the World Cup, the France team made short work of Jamaica at the Pierre-Mauroy stadium in Lille and was full of confidence before flying to Brazil .

That evening, Karim Benzema, Antoine Griezmann and Blaise Matuidi all scored a double. For Griezmann, narrowly selected for the World Cup, these were his 2nd and 3rd goals in the blue jersey. Olivier Giroud and Yohan Cabaye, then a potential midfield starter, also scored.

France Ukraine: 7-1, October 7, 2020

In the fall of 2020, in an international calendar still disrupted by Covid-19, the Blues inflicted a small correction on Ukraine in a friendly match. In the eleven tricolors, we then found players like Clément Lenglet, Anthony Martial or Houssem Aouar. The Blues were led by Olivier Giroud, who that evening overtook Michel Platini as second top scorer in the selection, or Corentin Tolisso, author of one of his two goals in the blue jersey.

Faced with Ukrainians affected by the virus and without their best players, the France team had fun. And as against Gibraltar, attention was focused on a young player, Eduardo Camavinga, author of his first international goal at the age of 17 for his 3rd selection.

France-Australia: 6-0, October 11, 2013

It was the first big score of the Deschamps era. In the fall of 2013, before entering the home stretch of qualifying for the World Cup, the French team, then the 25th nation in the world, won a 6-0 victory over Australia in a friendly match. Largely dominant, the Blues laid down the law against the Socceroos.

That evening, at the Parc des Princes, Franck Ribéry opened the scoring from the penalty spot and launched a great start for the Tricolores, who were leading 4-0 after half an hour of play. Olivier Giroud was already there and had offered himself a doubled, while Karim Benzema ended his drought of more than 1,200 minutes without finding the net by scoring the last goal of the evening.
