76th Cannes Film Festival | Godard’s latest work will be presented at Cannes Classics

(Paris) “The ultimate gesture of cinema” by Jean-Luc Godard, a biopic on the French navigator Florence Arthaud: the Cannes Film Festival unveiled Friday, eleven days before its opening, the list of films which will be presented in its Cannes Classics and Cinéma de la plage sections.




Eight months after the death of the legendary figure of cinema, the Festival will present a world premiere of a 20-minute short film, phoney warsconsidered the last work of Jean-Luc Godard.

The Cannes Classics section will also present a documentary in the form of a reflection on the state of cinema, Room 999, by Lubna Playoust. Shot last year during the 75e edition of the Festival, it interviews around thirty big names from the 7e art present at Cannes, from the American director James Gray to the French Olivier Assayas via the Iranian Asghar Farhadi. The film mirrors another documentary, shot by Wim Wenders forty years earlier, Room 666.

As for the cinema on the beach, Cannes has chosen to program FloA biopic on Florence Arthaud, navigator nicknamed “the little bride of the Atlantic” and who died in 2015, in a world premiere.
