[76e Festival de Cannes] Crush and rage on the Croisette

Favorite: Sandra Hüller, actress of the cuvée

Here the magazines screen And The French movie publish every day pools reviews of the works in the Official Selection. The voices that speak rarely agree with each other. But for now, two excellent films starring the exceptional German actress Sandra Hüller sit above the fray. The Zone of Interest of Jonathan Glazer on the Holocaust and Anatomy of a fall by Frenchwoman Justine Triet, a puzzle around a murder trial, are media favorites. I add my voice to that of my colleagues in applauding these two pearls that are expected to be high on the list.

Rant: “non grata” demonstrators

So much the better if there are demonstrations in Cannes. After all, the golden myth of star-studded red carpets is enough to shock those who rebel against excess. But they don’t picket here for long. This weekend, an anti-war activist in Ukraine who sprayed herself with fake blood on the festival grounds was quickly knocked down. At Cannes-Mandelieu airport, members of the Extinction Rébellion group tried to block traffic to protest against the swarm of private planes landing there, polluting the region. Alas, the security service intervenes so quickly that it pulls the rug out from under them. There’s no real freedom, come on!
