Dozens of gendarmes, investigators and the dog brigade, in front of the home of the mayor of Avallon (Yonne), this afternoon. They searched the family home and recovered 70 kilograms of cannabis. Vehicle seized, phone sealed, the elected official is suspected of being at the heart of drug trafficking. Jamilah Habsaoui owns the premises, but does not live in the house.
Locals surprised
Among the city’s residents interviewed, many were surprised by the mayor’s arrest. “Very friendly, helpful, that’s all. This surprises me a lot.”, explains a local resident. Another man even praises his qualities as mayor: “as mayor, I respect her, because she is very, very good.” Another search took place during the day, at the town hall and in the pharmacy where the mayor works: a kilo of cocaine and a gold ingot were found.
