“Three Quarters” from the town of Treuenbrietzen, in the Brandenburg region that surrounds the German capital, were evacuated on Sunday, according to a spokesman for the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark. Emergency accommodation has been set up in the town hall building.

The fire, which broke out on Friday evening, according to local media, ravages a hundred hectares in this wooded and rural region, around the municipality of Treuenbrietzen, where nearly 8,000 inhabitants live. The wind, which was particularly strong, accelerated the spread of the fire and made the work of the firefighters difficult. Several federal police and army helicopters are providing aerial support to the firefighters, drawing water from a lake near the area, according to images released by the Bundeswehr.
