“Three Quarters” from the town of Treuenbrietzen, in the Brandenburg region surrounding the German capital, were evacuated on Sunday, i.e. “about 700 people”said a spokesman for the district of Potsdam-Mittelmark. Emergency housing has been set up in the town hall building.
The fire, which broke out on Friday evening, according to local media, ravages a hundred hectares in this wooded and rural region, around the municipality of Treuenbrietzen, where nearly 8,000 inhabitants live. The wind, which is particularly strong, accelerates the spread of the fire, and makes the work of the intervention forces difficult, according to the authorities.
Several federal police and army helicopters are providing aerial support to the firefighters, drawing water from a lake near the area, according to images released by the Bundeswehr.
