7 years in prison for the holder of an illegal arsenal

The fight against firearms led in Greater Montreal by the SPVM in particular is seeing concrete results.

We had proof of this on Friday afternoon when Ziad Antoine Chamoun was sentenced to 7 and a half years in prison for possession of prohibited weapons.

In January 2020, the tactical intervention group arrested the 53-year-old man after an astounding discovery in the basement of his residence on rue Michel-Bibaud, which is located a stone’s throw from St. Joseph’s Oratory.

The latter hid an imposing arsenal in his home: 10 firearms, several of which were prohibited, namely two rifles and eight rifles. Some of them were even charged. Add to that, six silencers that add a sneaky character to the weapons. 7 of them had the butt or barrel cut off, which made them more concealable.

The police have also got their hands on high-capacity magazines, which make the weapons more dangerous, more lethal.

These are stolen weapons; it is not known if they were used to commit crimes in the metropolis.

The accused does not perceive real remorse and his behavior in prison is not exemplary with six disciplinary breaches. He has been detained since his arrest; he will therefore have almost 4 years left to serve if we take into account the preventive detention.
