The 7-year-old girl hit by a motorbike on Thursday evening in Vallauris (Alpes-Maritimes) has died, her family’s lawyer announced to franceinfo and AFP on Sunday, September 1. “There was a spontaneous gathering this evening in Vallauris during which the father announced the death”Nabil Boudi told AFP. According to him, the investigation should be reclassified as “involuntary manslaughter” on Monday.

The suspect, a 19-year-old man, was indicted on Saturday for “unintentional injuries resulting in total incapacity for work exceeding three months through a clearly deliberate violation of a specific safety or caution obligation by the driver of a motor vehicle”. He was placed under judicial supervision, contrary to the prosecution’s requests that he be placed in pre-trial detention, the Grasse prosecutor’s office announced in a press release on Saturday evening. The young man’s police custody was lifted on Saturday, the prosecutor’s office added.

“The family is dismayed” that the driver was not placed in pre-trial detention, the lawyer for Kamilya’s family explained to AFP in the middle of the day on Sunday. According to him, “The appeal will be considered, generally within 10 to 15 days”The Aix-en-Provence Court of Appeal assured that “The public prosecutor’s office will hear this case before the investigating chamber as soon as possible.”.

“Thank you French justice. From tomorrow, citizens who have not been arrested in the act, they know that they can drive as they want, act crazy on the road, kill. No respect for our daughter or for ourselves”the girl’s father denounced on Facebook.
