A 7-year-old girl was hit by a motorbike that was taking part in an urban rodeo on Thursday 29 August, early in the evening, in the commune of Vallauris (Alpes-Maritimes), France Télévisions learned from a police source, confirming information from the newspaper Nice MorningThe vital prognosis of the little girl, who is in a coma the day after the accident, is very engaged, the Grasse public prosecutor’s office said in a press release on Friday.
The incident took place around 7pm on Thursday evening on Avenue du Tapis Vert. A motorbike, which was driving at high speed on its rear wheel, hit the little girl who was crossing at the pedestrian crossing. According to France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, it was driving the wrong way and on its rear wheel. “Investigations are continuing to establish the exact circumstances of the commission of the offence.”adds the prosecution.
The driver, aged 19, was arrested and taken into custody on charges including unintentional injuries resulting in total incapacity for work for more than three months through a clearly deliberate violation of a specific safety obligation, the Grasse prosecutor’s office said in its press release. The young man, who had no criminal record, tested negative for alcohol and drugs, the same source continued.
An online petition has been opened by residents of the neighborhood where the child was hit, to demand “an improvement in road safety” in Vallauris, reports France Bleu Azur. As of 10 p.m. Friday, the petition had collected 679 signatures.
