7.5 for an imperial Fofana and a striking Kolo Muani, 3.5 for Mbappé… The notes of the Blues

After a complicated start to the match, the Blues increased the pace on Tuesday to overcome (3-2) an eye-catching Chilean team. Jonathan Clauss and Eduardo Camavinga were injured in the first half.

Three days after the slap received against Germany in Lyon (0-2), the French team raised the tone against Chile (3-2), Tuesday March 26, at the Vélodrome stadium in Marseille. For their last outing before the Euro, the Blues reassured about their offensive capacity, but still gave a glimpse of defensive flaws to be resolved before the third Euro of the Didier Deschamps era.

Mike Maignan: 5/10

The Blues goalkeeper can do nothing about Nunez’s first goal (6th) or Osorio’s excellent strike (82nd). Apart from these two actions, he was only called upon twice, on a long shot from Sanchez (9th) and on a dry attempt from Osorio (76th).

Jules Koundé: 6/10

Entered early in place of Jonathan Clauss (10th), the former Bordeaux player was much more solid defensively than against Germany. Firefighter in front of his goal on a returning cross from Osorio (41st), he relaxed offensively throughout the match, frequently combining with Randal Kolo Muani. He could have given himself an assist if Mbappé (45th) or Giroud (52nd) had been more successful in front of goal.

William Saliba: 5.5/10

Rather prominent, the Gunners central defender was solid in his management of depth, returning to Vargas (24th) and Sanchez at the very end of the match to protect the success of the Blues (90th). He projected himself a lot offensively, helping to make differences on the right side with Kolo Muani and Koundé. However, he could have come out more quickly on Osorio during the second Chilean goal (82nd)

Ibahima Konaté: 5/10

Less involved in the French game than his partner in the hinge, Konaté was content to do his job, and did it with diligence, often compensating for the defensive errors of Theo Hernandez in the left lane. Unfortunately, it was on one of these compensations that the first Chilean goal arrived, where Nunez found himself alone in his zone to trigger his shot (6th).

Théo Hernandez: 4.5/10

The youngest of the Hernandez siblings had a two-speed match. Very good offensively, including an assist for Randal Kolo Muani (26th), the Milanese however experienced an ordeal in defense, very often overwhelmed by the young Osorio and the less young Isla.

Aurélien Tchouaméni: 3.5/10

Still out of time in midfield, the Madrilenian did not press on the Chilean opener (6th), allowing an easy combination on the left of the field. He was always put in difficulty in his zone by the movements of Alexis Sanchez. Offensively transparent, apart from a very good cross which led to an opportunity for Mbappé (45th).

Youssouf Fofana: 7.5/10

The Monegasque midfielder was imperial in the center of the field. Never stingy with his efforts, he recovered countless balls, sometimes very high on the pitch. It was from one of these recoveries that Randal Kolo Muani’s goal (26th) came. Scorer a few minutes earlier on a deflected shot (19th), Fofana scored a lot of points in the battle for midfield places at the Euro.

Matteo Guendouzi: 5/10

Came to replace Eduardo Camavinga (41st), injured and guilty on the first goal, the Lazio Rome player was acclaimed by his former audience at the Vélodrome. This will remain his only feat of arms of the match, being almost untouched offensively while ensuring his recovery work.

Randal Kolo Muani: 7.5/10

In difficulty at the club, Randal Kolo Muani found an oasis at the Vélodrôme. Explosive on each acceleration, he initiates the revolt after the Chilean opener (16th). Scorer with a header on a caviar from Theo Hernandez (26th), he always found the fault in his right lane, undermining his defender. He punctuates his excellent match with an offering for Olivier Giroud (73rd), after eliminating two defenders, before being replaced by Moussa Diaby (82nd).

Kylian Mbappé: 3.5/10

The captain of the Blues went through the meeting like a ghost. Always pressed closely in his left lane, he participated little in the game in the first period, contenting himself with an off-target shot (22nd), then a blocked shot (45th). To his credit, a decisive pass on a delivery for Youssouf Fofana (19th). More often found during the second act, he never managed to make the difference, and lost a significant number of balls under the constant whistles of the Vélodrome.

Olivier Giroud: 5/10

If Olivier Giroud was not very present in the French game, he tried, as best he could, to improve each ball he touched. He didn’t come far from finishing, first with a header from a cross from Koundé (52nd), then with the tip of his foot from a free kick from Theo Hernandez. Before finally finding the fault, concluding a solitary raid from six meters from Randal Kolo Muani (73rd). Replaced by Marcus Thuram (82nd).
