66th Grammy Evening | To prepare for the big music festival

The 66e Grammy awards ceremony takes place on Sunday and the presentation of the golden gramophones promises to be thrilling, between the domination of SZA (with nine selections), the presence of the star of the moment Taylor Swift and the quotes from Quebecers Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Rufus Wainwright and Allison Russell. A little guide to help you find your way around.

Grammy night

When ? February 4, at 8 p.m.

Or ? The evening is broadcast live from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on CityTV, CBS and Paramount+, as well as on YouTube TV

To note : Approximately 80 of the 94 awards will be presented during the Premiere Ceremony, broadcast live on live.grammy.com and on YouTube on February 4 from 3:30 p.m.

Why watch the party?

If you are interested in popular music, the Grammy awards bring together in the same place, during the same evening, all those (apart from the few shunned artists, we will come back to that) who make the pop world go round. Comedian Trevor Noah will be in charge of hosting again this year. The South African has always played this role very well, which he has held for four years and he even has the chance to win a prize this year, the recording of his show I Wish You Would being cited in the category of best humor album.

Races to follow

Taylor Swift

Women are leading the way this year. In the album of the year category, there are seven women or group of women among the eight finalists: SZA, Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey, Janelle Monáe and boygenius. Singer-songwriter Jon Batiste rounds out the list. The same thing happens in the Recording and Song of the Year categories, with Jon Batiste once again the only male finalist. Given the great year she’s had, it’s a safe bet that Taylor Swift (with six selections) will often win during Sunday evening.

The famous Sphere in Las Vegas, from which U2 will perform at the Grammy night

The Grammy night is known for its musical numbers for which we do not skimp on production costs. This year again, the lineup of stars who will take the stage ensures an interesting ceremony: Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Travis Scott, Olivia Rodrigo, Burna Boy, Joni Mitchell, Brandi Carlile, SZA and Luke Combs are notably expected. For the first time in 22 years, Billy Joel will also be among the artists who will present a number during the ceremony. Last week, the Grammy Awards announced that U2 would also be there… live from the Sphere in Las Vegas, where the group is currently in residence. The evening promises to be entertaining!

Allison Russell

Quebecers, accustomed to the Grammy awards, stood out again this year. Montrealer Allison Russell, already nominated four times in the past, received four new selections this year: two for the play The Returnerone for the album of the same name and another for the song Eve Was Black. Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, winner of three Grammy awards in his career, has two new chances to be rewarded, in the categories of best opera record (for Blanchard: Champion) and Best Orchestral Performance (with the Philadelphia Orchestra). Rufus Wainwright is cited in the category of best folk album, for his album Folklocracy, notably in the company of Joni Mitchell and Paul Simon. Rufus Wainwright will also be one of the presenters of the First Grammy Awards ceremony, which precedes the big evening. Most of the golden gramophones (more than 80) are handed out during this event, hosted by songwriter Justin Tranter. The three Montrealers competing for awards are all cited in categories presented during this First Ceremony and all three will be on hand to collect their trophies if they win.
