66 confirmed cases in France

France had 66 confirmed cases of infection with the monkeypox virus on Tuesday, June 7, health authorities said in the evening. “As of June 7, 2022 at 2 p.m., 66 confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported in France”, indicates Public Health France (SPF) on its site. The previous assessment, Friday, reported 51 cases in France.

On Tuesday, there were 48 in Ile-de-France, 8 in Occitania, 5 in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, 2 in Normandy, one in Hauts-de-France, one in Center-Val de Loire and one in Paca. Of these 66 confirmed cases, “61 were the subject of an investigation, one refused it, one remains unreachable and 3 are under investigation”adds SPF, which specifies that “all cases investigated are men, aged between 22 and 63 (median age: 35)”.

“Among the cases investigated, 3 are immunocompromised, one was hospitalized but is no longer so to date; none died”indicates SPF, which specifies that “As in other European countries, these cases occurred mainly, but not exclusively, in men who have sex with men, without direct link with people returning from endemic areas”.

Nearly half (28) have traveled abroad before the onset of their symptoms, some of them in several different countries, still indicates SPF. Most say they cannot identify the person who allegedly infected them, but three are secondary cases, two of which (come from) confirmed cases in France. Monkeypox is usually a mild disease, but its spread outside endemic areas such as West Africa remains a concern.
