65th Grammy Awards | Yannick Nézet-Séguin finalist five times

Yannick Nézet-Séguin is the most nominated Quebecer for the Grammy Awards this year, with five citations. Allison Russell, Kaytranada, Xavier Dolan and Arcade Fire will also represent Quebec at the big music celebration night.

Quebec conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin is cited no less than five times at the next Grammy Awards. His name appears in the categories of Best Opera Recording (two nominations), Best Opera Performance, Best Classical Collection, as well as Best Classical Solo Vocal Album (as a pianist).

Last year, the man who had already been nominated several times in the past won his very first golden gramophone, for the project Price: Symphonies nbone 1 and 3, crowned Best Orchestral Performance of the Year.

Quebec is doing very well this year in terms of Grammy nominations. Among the five Quebec artists cited is Montrealer Allison Russell. Already nominated three times last year for her album OutsideChildthe singer-songwriter adds two nominations this year, this time for Best Roots Performance (with Aoife O’Donovan, for the song Prodigal Daughters) and best roots song (with authors Tim O’Brien & Aoife O’Donovan, for the same song).

Kaytranada, who was crowned twice in 2021, is again this year for Best Dance/Electro Recording, for his song with the American HER, Intimidated.

The Scrapbook WE, from Arcade Fire, is nominated in the category of Best Alternative Album. The band is a frequent Grammy contender and received its first award for the album. The Suburbs in 2010, big winner of the Album of the year.

Xavier Dolan, who directed the music video for the song Easy on me of Adele, could win a golden gramophone for his work as a director and producer.

Nominations in more than 80 categories were announced Tuesday. Beyoncé leads the race for gramophones this year, with nine citations. Kendrick Lamar, not far behind, collected 8 nominations. Adele and Brandi Carlile are each nominated seven times. Harry Styles, Future, Mary J. Blige all have six nominations.

The announcement of the nominations, broadcast live, took place at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. Several artists participated in the ceremony, to present nominations and to give performances. John Legend, Machine Gun Kelly, Smokey Robinson, Olivia Rodirigo and Cyndi Lauper were in attendance.

The 65e Grammy awards ceremony will take place on February 5. The host of the evening has not yet been announced.
