Like an air unity of the left. This year, Labor Day is between the presidential and legislative elections, in the middle of a negotiation campaign on the left of the political spectrum, which inevitably rubbed off on the Landes procession. It is in Dax (Landes), that all the demonstrators of the department met this Sunday, May 1, 2022, in front of the town hall.
In the procession, the unions at the origin of the mobilization (CGT, FO, UNSA) and the flags of France Insoumise, Europe Ecologie les Verts, the French Communist Party and the Socialist Party. The socialist deputy Boris Vallaud was also among the demonstrators.
The beginning of a 3rd social round?
In claims, a scent of union, the whole procession seems to join on the pension reform. “We want to retire at 60, that’s the key demand”, admits Alain, Europe Ecology the Greens flag in hand, who is ready to fight to the end. “I am a union representative, I can see that there are many who leave before the age of 65, which means a drop in pensions, so it is not correct.” Like the other demonstrators, Alain would like to see a union of the left for the legislative elections materialize.
However, this May 1st in the Landes should not be reduced to pension reform: “We must not forget the defense of public services, the rise in the minimum wage, pensions, the cost of living it is a whole”, Manual explains. “To be there is to be in the news and to be present as a human being. It’s a whole general context that becomes difficult for a whole part of society.” So is this May 1st the beginning of a 3rd social round ? “I’m not a diviner but I think the 3rd round will come by itself, I don’t understand that it remains as it is.”
