Iranians elect their president on Friday, July 5. The second round pits the reformist candidate against an ultra-conservative candidate. Both camps are trying to mobilize abstentionists.

Last rally in Tehran (Iran), Thursday July 4, for the ultraconservative Said Jailli and the reformer Massoud Pezeshkian. The two candidates for the presidential election tried to convince the 60% of Iranians who did not vote in the first round. Some were not won over. “I don’t think I’ll vote in the second round. I haven’t heard anything positive from the candidates, they haven’t talked about any projects.”laments one man.

“The question is how many promises by presidential candidates have been kept over the past 43 years?”adds another, who expects results to be “have an impact on the economy and the livelihoods of the population”. Faced with multiple sanctions imposed by the United States since 2018 and the protests that occurred in 2022 after the death of Mahsa Amini for removing her veil, Iranians say they are disappointed with the power in place. Nearly 61 million voters are called to vote for the second round.
