6 shows to see at the International Literature Festival

For 29 years, artists have been creating theatrical works inspired by literature for the International Literature Festival (FIL). Here are 6 suggestions among the sixty shows and activities not to be missed, presented in 15 different locations from September 20 to 30, according to the co-general director and artistic director, Michelle Corbeil.

Niagara, according to a novel by Catherine Mavrikakis, by Martin Faucher

“This is an incredible author and a text that aims to look back on her story with her mother. This is a very beautiful book which features the great Sylvie Drapeau. This is a subject that affects us all, the loss of our mother or our grandmother and how we remember them,” explains Michelle Corbeil.

May our joy remainbased on the novel by Kevin Lambert, by Angela Konrad

“A book that we talk about a lot, which even received a nomination for the Goncourt Prize. It’s Angela Konrad, the new director of Factory C, who tackles the staging. With Marie-Thérèse Fortin, Lise Roy, Ariane Castellanos and Ralph Prosper, among other actors,” says the director.

My Red Life Kubrickbased on the novel by Simon Roy, by Eric Jean

“Author Simon Roy requested medical assistance in dying last year after battling brain cancer. It was the first book in which he started from the work The Shinning, by Stanley Kubrick, and associated it with a tragedy that occurred in his family. Before he died, he told Eric Jean how important this project was to him. It is very moving. With the excellent Maxim Gaudette. »

The Arcana, by Tristan Malavoy, by Paul-André Fortier

“A show which was wanted and imagined by Paul-André Fortier, who is a great choreographer and a retired dancer, and who is signing his first production here. This is a theater work requested from Tristan Malavoy, while Étienne Pilon was chosen to recite the text, but also to move like a dancer. So everyone is doing things they have never done before,” says the director.

From September 26 to 30 in the small, intimate room of the Prospero Theater

“It’s a show for children that combines literature and songs. It’s a story about little rabbits which is extraordinary as a tale. It was written by Cree writer Tomson Highway. The songs are performed in Cree. For children, from 5 years old. A great way to educate children about the indigenous world, in a fun way. »
