Of the 8 refineries in mainland France, 6 sites are totally or partially affected by the strike movement affecting French refineries. It is therefore more than half of the hexagonal refining capacities which are missing on the fuel market this Wednesday, according to the economic service of franceinfo.

This day of Wednesday promises to be particularly decisive when a third of service stations are still affected by fuel shortages: will the strikers of the oil groups give in to the threat of requisitions brandished by the government? Under the fire of criticism from the opposition, the government indeed drew the threat of recourse to the ultimate weapon on Tuesday. Taunted by the opposition in the National Assembly, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced the requisition of personnel to unblock the fuel depots of the Esso-ExxonMobil group.
22% of refining capacity is provided by the Normandy refinery, the largest in France, located in Gonfreville-L’Orcher near Le Havre. A third of the production of refined products comes from Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon and Fos-sur-Mer.
The refineries on strike are those of Donges (Loire-Atlantique, TotalEnergies group), Gonfreville-L’Orcher (near Le Havre, TotalEnergies group), La Mède (bio-refinery of the TotalEnergies group), Notre-Dame-de-Gravenchon (Normandy, Esso group) and Fos-sur-Mer (Bouches-du-Rhône, Esso group). In Donges, the call for a strike by the CGT and FO is coupled with a call for blockades of the site. At the Feyzin refinery (TotalEnergies group), south of Lyon, it is the strategic shipping department that is on strike.
The refineries of Grandpuits (TotalEnergies group), in Seine-et-Marne, and Lavéra (PetroIneos group), near Martigues, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, do not participate in the social movement.
