54 municipalities in the Landes in a temporary control zone following a suspicion in the Gers

Everything starts from a suspected avian flu in a farm in the Gers, in Manciet (between Nogaro and Eauze). The health authorities have made a link between this Gers suspicion and two Landes farms in Eugénie-les-Bains and Montgaillard.

Analyzes are in progress. Pending the results, the Landes prefecture has decided, in a decree dated December 15, 2021, to delimit a temporary control zone. 54 municipalities in the Landes including Eugénie-les-Bains and Montgaillard are therefore placed under surveillance.

In this temporary control zone, all movements of poultry or captive birds are now prohibited. The transport and spreading of manure and slurry from poultry or game birds is also prohibited. The Landes prefecture thus intends counter a possible spread of avian influenza following this suspected case in the Gers.

This is not the first time that there have been suspicions of avian flu in the South West. There had been two cases in October, in Estibeaux in the Landes and Cazaubon in the Gers. More recently, at the beginning of December, it was on a breeding farm in Sort-en-Chalosse. Each time the analyzes had made it possible to determine that it was not the avian influenza virus.

Since November 5, the risk for avian influenza has increased to a “high” level for the whole of mainland France. To avoid any contamination, all French poultry are confined.
