53rd Juno Awards | Charlotte Cardin leads the nominations

Charlotte Cardin is the most cited artist at the upcoming Juno Awards, with six nominations, including best album and artist of the year. Quebec will be well represented at the 53e evening celebrating Canadian music, with around fifty nominations in total, announced Tuesday morning.


Montrealer Charlotte Cardin is also nominated in the categories of people’s choice, songwriter, pop album and single of the year. Ontarians Daniel Caesar and TALK are hot on the heels of the Quebec singer in terms of nominations with five chances each to win a Juno Award, notably in the album of the year category.

Thus, Alexandra Stréliski (Neo-Romance), Charlotte Cardin (99 Nights), Daniel Caesar (Never Enough), Lauren Spencer Smith (Mirror), TALK (Lord of the Flies) are in the running for album of the year. Taylor Swift, Luke Combs, Metro Boomin, Morgan Wallen and SZA compete in the Best International Album category. Charlotte Cardin, Daniel Caesar, Lauren Spencer Smith, Shania Twain and Tate have the chance to receive the Juno Award for Entertainer of the Year.

Quebec representation is strong this year: Elisapie, Men I Trust, Dominique Fils-Aimé and Souldia are also among the dozens of artists nominated from Quebec.

Allison Russell at the Grammys last Sunday

Montrealer Allison Russell, winner of a Grammy award last Sunday, is one of the most cited artists, with three nominations, in the categories of songwriter, contemporary roots album and music video of the year. Yannick Nézet-Séguin, also recipient of a trophy during the big Grammy ceremony, will have two opportunities to win a Juno award next March, for classical album of the year (with the Orchester Métropolitain and the Philadelphia Orchestra).

Alexandra Stréliski also stands out with two nominations in total, instrumental album of the year and album of the year, for her album Néo-Romance. Fouki, Karkwa, Salebarbes, Souldia and Les Cowboys Fringants & the Montreal Symphony Orchestra are in the running in the French-speaking album of the year category.

The 53e Juno Awards ceremony, hosted by singer Nelly Furtado, will be held March 24 in Halifax.
