53rd Festival of New Cinema | The FNC announces its program

The 53e edition of the Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC) offers film lovers no fewer than 102 feature films and 98 short films, including films that have won awards at the Cannes, Berlin, Locarno and Toronto festivals.


Montreal filmmaker born in Winnipeg, Matthew Rankin will have the honour of opening the festivities with A universal languagewhere he shares the bill with Mani Soleymanlou and Danielle Fichaud.

Chosen to represent Canada at the Oscars, the film was awarded the Chantal-Akerman Prize at the Quinzaine des Cinémathèques and the Best Canadian Discovery Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Starring Félix Kysyl and Catherine Frot, Mercyby French director Alain Guiraudie, to whom we owe The stranger of the lakewill close on the 53rde Festival of New Cinema. The FNC will take place from October 9 to 20.
