Marseille customs seized 528 kg of cocaine with an estimated value of 37 million euros, announced the Ministry of the Economy in a press release on Friday August 12.

The seizure took place on Tuesday August 9 at 7:30 a.m. Customs officers targeted a moving container that had just been unloaded from a ship coming from Martinique. It did indeed contain furniture and boxes, but the canine team’s dog quickly marked a sofa, in which customs officers discovered 54 cocaine loaves. They continued their research and found a total of 464 packets of cocaine in seats, armchairs, speakers or even trunks.

This is the second time in a few weeks that Marseille customs officers have made such a seizure. They had already discovered more than 71 kg of cocaine in another move from Martinique on July 20. In total, in 2021, French customs officers intercepted 18.4 tonnes of cocaine, specifies the ministry.
