52 million for the Quartier des spectacles

The city of Montreal announced Thursday the renewal of its financial commitment to the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership, which will result in a contribution of 10 million for each of the next five years.

The agreement is divided into two parts. An amount of nearly 25 million over five years has been allocated to maintain “public space management and support services” for festivals and other events held within the Quartier des spectacles area. Another amount of 27 million and dust must be used for “the animation and programming” of this urban space.

Ericka Alneus, responsible for culture and heritage on the executive committee of the city of Montreal, described the Quartier des spectacles as “the cultural heart that makes our city center vibrate.” In its 20 years of existence, the Quartier des spectacles Partnership “has played an invaluable role in the cultural development of our city,” she added.

The announcement, which comes at the dawn of the holiday holidays, also comes with an invitation launched by the city of Montreal to frequent the city center in the middle of winter to take advantage of the activities offered, including the skating rink on the quiet Esplanade and the 14e edition of Luminothérapie. Earlier Thursday, another announcement was made, reminding citizens that winter activities are offered in all boroughs.
