(Paris) American actress Julia Roberts will be awarded an honorary César on February 28, during the 50e edition of the most prestigious prizes in French cinema, the organizers announced on Monday.
Propelled to the forefront at the age of 23 in Pretty Woman with Richard Gere (1990), Julia Roberts marked the history of romantic comedy (Notting Hill) and won an Oscar for her role as a whistleblower in Erin Brockovich in 2001.
At 56, she remains one of the most famous and endearing faces of American cinema, and is also known for her humanitarian and environmental commitments.
The Honorary César, which rewards a career, was awarded this year to French director and actress Agnès Jaoui and British director Christopher Nolan.
The 50e César ceremony, broadcast unencrypted on the Canal+ channel, must be chaired by Catherine Deneuve. Nominations are due to be announced on January 29. The 49e edition had seen the triumph ofAnatomy of a Fallby Justine Triet (César for best film and best direction).
