They were according to the Ministry of the Interior 6,500 people to demonstrate in France, in about thirty gatherings. In Bordeaux, a procession of around 500 people marched through the streets, departing from the water mirror in the early afternoon.
The procession then headed for the US Consulate. As a symbol, 7 days after the decision of the American Supreme Court to annul the 1973 judgment which protected the right to abortion in the country.
A double challenge
Among the demonstrators, women, but also men. Many placards are brandished, like this large message inscribed on a white tarpaulin: ” For abortion no confidence in Biden, the fight is fought in the street “.

Many messages of support for American women, and also the fear of seeing the right to abortion also called into question in France. On several signs, a common message: ” my body my choice “.
The demonstrators demand for the most part the inclusion of the right to abortion in the French constitution. With the objective of strengthening the protection of this right for women, acquired in France by the Veil law of January 17, 1975 which temporarily legalized the voluntary termination of pregnancy for women. It was renewed in 1979, then definitively legalized on January 1, 1980.
The fear of unsupervised abortions
For many demonstrators present, banning abortion would be “counterproductive and risky“. This is what Noémie, 20, thinks in particular: “Abortion has always existed and will always exist. The only problem is that without abortion authorization, we expose ourselves to unsupervised, uncontrolled abortions which would put women who do not want children at risk.“.
