This Saturday, October 15, 2022, in the morning, a CGT-CFDT inter-union called for demonstrations to defend the Fougères Hospital Center, in Ille-et-Vilaine. About 500 demonstrators responded to this call, according to the unions. They denounce a lack of doctors which is beginning to be difficult to sustain in certain departments.
Gastroenterology, maternity, cardiology
The procession marched from the hospital to the sub-prefecture. We could notably read on the signs: “At the end of the line”, “The diaper is full, put down on strike”, “Give us the means to be human” or even “Public hospital in vital emergency”. According to the CFDT, despite this action, the demonstrators were unable to meet members of the ARS, the Rennes University Hospital or the sub-prefecture.
This lack of doctors is especially glaring in gastroenterology and in maternity, according to the CFDT. “It does not mean that the services will closereassures Katia Merienne, general secretary of the CFDT Social Health in Ille-et-Vilaine, on the other hand, it means fewer appointments in gastro and perhaps a closing of the maternity ward at night. Today, there is only one full-time gynecologist in the maternity ward. The service runs with temporary workers. If we can’t find temporary workers, what do we do?“
“Among caregivers, there is a mixture of exhaustion, anger and resignation” – Katia Merienne, general secretary of the CFDT Social Health in Ille-et-Vilaine
Katia Merienne calls for the establishment of shared positions on certain services, between the University Hospital of Rennes and the Hospital Center of Fougères. It would be a question of deploying a specialist from the CHU to Fougères, a few days a week. “The Rennes University Hospital has had to do it since 2016_”, notes the trade unionist. 2016 is the year of the signing of an agreement
between the University Hospital of Rennes and several hospitals in the department, which encourages everyone to commit to offering “a common and shared offer”.
