50 minutes of interruption, players to the rescue … Big scare during a heart attack in the stands

The end of the match between Cadiz and FC Barcelona, counting for the 5th day of La Liga, was interrupted on Saturday for fifty minutes – twenty on the lawn, thirty in the locker room – due to a medical incident in the stands, Saturday 10 September evening.

An AFP photographer present at the stadium noted that a supporter had suffered a heart attack, then that a cameraman responsible for filming the meeting lost consciousness in the process. Blaugrana defender Ronald Araujo began to pray on the lawn.

The Cadiz club confirmed in the evening that a spectator had suffered cardiac arrest in the stands. “One of the medical teams went to the victim in the stands with a defibrillator to start resuscitation. At the same time, FC Barcelona offered a second defibrillator if necessary, which was taken to the area of the incident by the players themselves. The resuscitation was positive after a few minutes, and the supporter was transferred to the Puerta del Mar hospital, where he remains under observation.”club management said in a statement.

The protagonists of the meeting, players and managers, remained standing for long minutes, in shock. The referee finally sent the players back to the locker room after a 20-minute break, while Barça were leading 2-0. They returned to the pitch around 30 minutes later and, after a brief warm-up, the game resumed at 9:05 p.m. Barca won 4-0.
