50 meters deep in apnea, a Mayenne bronze medalist at the French championships

Charles-Antoine Gombert began to learn about freediving by practicing spearfishing five years ago. Three years ago, the Laval residents began training by taking out a license at the Club Subaquatique Lavallois. This 38-year-old physiotherapist, who practices in Sablé-sur-Sarthe, takes part in his first French championships in early July in Villefranche-sur-Mer near Nice.

In the “free immersion” category, that is to say without fins, Charles-Antoine Gombert managed to reach a depth of 50 meters. A performance that allows the Mayenne to take third place in the competition (the French champion achieved 56 meters). With flippers, the Laval freediver descended to 52 meters deep, knowing that he has a record at 55 meters.

Charles-Antoine Gombert did not necessarily think of achieving such a performance. “I am very happy with this result for a first participation.“The Mayenne will have the opportunity to confirm during the next competition scheduled for September in the bay of Ajaccio in Corsica.
