A 5-year-old girl died on Saturday January 15 after being hit by a skier on a slope in the Flaine ski area (Haute-Savoie), reports France Bleu Pays de Savoie. The 40-year-old skier was taken into custody. The little girl was part of a group of five children, supervised by an instructor from the French ski school (ESF) on a blue slope, according to the first elements of the investigation.
“The child was in single file behind the group and was about to make a right turn when she was very violently hit by the skier arriving at high speed who tried in vain to avoid her”, explains the Bonneville prosecution. The girl, who resides in Switzerland with her parents, was ejected and died shortly after the shock.
The 40-year-old skier is from Haut-Savoie. He is “extremely shocked”. The investigation, opened for “manslaughter by manifestly deliberate violation of an obligation of security and prudence”, was entrusted to the research brigade of the Bonneville gendarmerie.
