A 5-year-old fatally stabbed his twin with a kitchen knife during an argument in California on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the afternoon while the two brothers were at odds.
“Tragically, during the incident, one of the two 5-year-old children took a small kitchen knife and stabbed his twin brother,” the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
The injured child was taken to hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Given the circumstances of the incident, no charges have been filed against anyone involved in this situation.
“California laws indicate that age, criminal intent and awareness are necessary to charge a child,” the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office shares in its press release.
“Based on the current investigation, there is no indication of negligence or criminal activity by any person,” it added.
Authorities say out of respect for the family, no further information will be released regarding this case.
